Includes bibliographical references (p. 127-137) and indexes.

Using archaeological and textual sources, the author reconstructs the daily lives of the Biblical Israelites (ca. 1200-600 B.C.E.). He describes the activities of rural and urban economies, physical settings and buildings, sociopolitical structures, food preparation and storage, hygiene and sanitation, arts and writing, and warfare. His final chapter consists of a hypothetical day in the life of one family living in a small hamlet in the days of King Hezekiah. The Society of Biblical Literature publishes the book and distributes the paperbound edition; Brill distributes the clothbound edition. Annotation 2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
